Flutterby Bits

Fall is in the Air!

Stop – Drop – & Roll!!  Great safety actions to know and remember.  Firefighter Simmons made a special visit to Rhyme time and Story time during October’s Fire Prevention week.  Our young participants had the opportunity to listen to four  books read to us by our guest.  We then practiced the Stop, Drop and Roll procedure and the low belly crawl across the floor.  I even got in on some of this action.  Good for us all to practice! Of course, the little ones were much quicker at this (Good for them!).

Jennifer also demonstrated what Firefighters may look like when they are wearing all their safety gear.  Fantastic opportunity to see the transformation from Jennifer as a real person to Firefighter Simmons.  I am glad these young readers were able to experience this.  It was a little scary, but I do think it helps to know that under all that safety gear is a really nice person there to help us should we ever need them.  Thanks Jen!

The “Boo Bash” Halloween party is planned for Oct. 29th between 5 and 7 pm.  Wear your costume.  We will have a photo booth set up to take your photo, a couple of games to play, pumpkin craft, snack, stories & plenty of spooktacular fun!  This is a come and go kind of program.  I am looking forward to some ghouls and goblins as well a princesses and heroes showing up, especially if they bring a smile!

Wild Wednesday is back November 18th with “Be A-Maize-D”.  This is an after school program from 3:30 to 5 pm and is most suited for the K-5th graders, all are welcome.
I am excited to see what is A-Maize-ing in Iowa.  I really do like having the ISU Extension office here presenting programs.  We always have fun and learn a thing or two.

December may bring a special visitor. He seems to like long beards and red suits.  Keep an eye on the Library’s calendar for upcoming events.  December makes me think of snow!  Maybe even snowball forts.  Many good things up and coming.

I hope to see you soon.  Make sure you bring your sunny smiles.

Those Girls by Chevy Stevens

Chevy Stevens latest novel is about three sisters: Jess, Courtney and Dani.  Their father is an alcoholic with a temper.  One night a fight gets out of hand and the sisters go on the run.  Their truck breaks down in a small town and what happens there is even worse.
The book is divided into
