Kari's Corner

On Sunday July 5th the library was closed for the holiday weekend, but you could find all of the staff that day volunteering at the Mill for the Chamber’s Breakfast at the Mill.  Library staff was easy to locate all in our matching black shirts with library logos on them.  Breakfast was served from 8:00am -12:00pm and consisted of pancakes, eggs, sausage and fruit.  We had a great turnout and at times the cooks had a hard time keeping up with pancakes and sausage.  They were cooking as fast as they could and people were very patient about waiting just a minute or two for fresh food.
One of the many items discussed in our monthly staff development meetings (every second Wednesday of the month the library closes early at 5:00 for staff development) is how can the library become more involved in the community.  We have been analyzing our Vision:  “To be an essential component, providing relevant services and engaging people community-wide.”  You may notice some new things coming up at the library as we start putting our action planning to use.
The group decided one good way to become involved in the community would be volunteering at different events in the community.  Where would you next like to see library staff and library board members volunteer at?  Give us suggestions in the comments.  We were thinking of something this Fall.
