It is Christmas at the library! You may think to yourself, “It is not
December, why is the librarian talking about Christmas in April?” Okay, it is not
really Christmas; it just feels that way because today is new book day at the
library.
New book day is when Amy, our
assistant director, has entered a stack of new books into the catalog so they
are now ready for other staff members to process and get ready to put out on the
shelves for patrons to check out. Once
they are in the catalog staff labels them, stamps them with our logo and puts
date due slips inside the books.
As we process the new books to get them ready for patrons to
checkout, staff members (myself and my co-worker Vonnie come to mind) are
practically gleeful getting our hands on the new books. We keep an eye on Amy as she is processing
the new books into the catalog and as soon as she prints out the labels for us,
we descend on the new books like little vultures.
It feels like Christmas because we are putting out new little
gems (aka new books) out on the shelves, waiting to be picked up and taken home
like little presents. There normally
ends up to be a stack of books that end up going home with us.
If you would like to know what new books and other items have
been recently added to our collection, you can go to our catalog and under the
green box called “What’s Hot,” click on “What’s New.” Then you can search the items that were
recently added within the last week, two weeks or the last month. If you see something you would like to
checkout, you can always put a couple items, or more, on hold. If you are not sure how to find out what the
new books are in the catalog or how to place a reserve on them, you can ask any
staff member and we can show you.
