TIPLINE: Magic

The Independence Public Library's Interesting Nuggets of Exploration: Magic

Halloween is almost here and that means the amazingly strange and unusual is about to get a little more common. And why not start celebrating early with a little magic.

Fans of fantasy fiction are probably way ahead of us, but that doesn't mean we can't join them. There are plenty of stories about witches, wizards, magicians, and magical creatures to go around.  The IPL has the popular Harry Potter series, and even some spin-off stories and guides to go with the series. If you'd like some variety to your magic, give the Magic Tree House series a try for some time traveling fun. We also have James Patterson's Witch & Wizard series, Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series, and the classic Lord of the Rings series by J. R. R. Tolkien.
Maybe you'd like to get hands-on with magic, or get a glimpse of it with your own eyes. You can do that at the library too. We have lots of magic trick books (and a few DVDs) to get you started. And if you want to learn about a master first hand, be sure to stop at the IPL on October 11th for Houdini: His Life & His Legend. The show starts at 2:00 PM!
