Kari's Corner

Those Girls by Chevy Stevens

Chevy Stevens latest novel is about three sisters: Jess, Courtney and Dani.  Their father is an alcoholic with a temper.  One night a fight gets out of hand and the sisters go on the run.  Their truck breaks down in a small town and what happens there is even worse.
The book is divided into
two main parts.  The first part is when they are young, running away from home and what happens to them in that small town.  The second half of the book is eighteen years later, focusing on Jess and her daughter, Skyler.  One of the sisters, Courtney, disappears and Skyler runs away after her and tries to bring her Aunt back home.   They both end up getting in trouble and needing help.
This was a quick read.  I liked how the author divided the book into two parts; the first part when the sisters are younger and then eighteen years later.  Parts of the book are dark, but the author makes you care about the characters.  It was hard to put the book down because you just want to keep reading to find out what happens next.
Chevy Stevens is becoming a favorite of mine.
