TIPLINE: Wise Choices

The Independence Public Library's Interesting Nuggets of Exploration: Wise Choices

Ever wonder what the librarians are reading? You could always ask, but if they aren't there when you are, you end up a bit stuck. We're hoping to fix that. You might have noticed the addition of color to some of our display shelves, and maybe an owl or two. Those are our Wise Choice shelves. You can find them in our Adult and Teen Fiction sections. All the librarian picks are color coded.

Just look for the owl with the colored book. We give our favorites a hoot of approval with an owl on the cover, and you can find a selection of these on the Wise Choice Shelves.
You can also find Wise Choice books from any librarian from the online catalog. Just click on the "Booklists" tab under the "What's Hot" column.

The Wise Choice lists will be at the bottom. Pick your librarian and explore something new to read.

Kari's Corner

It is Christmas at the library!  You may think to yourself, “It is not December, why is the librarian talking about Christmas in April?”  Okay, it is not really Christmas; it just feels that way because today is new book day at the library.
New book day is when Amy, our assistant director, has entered a stack of new books into the catalog so they are now ready for other staff members to process and get ready to put out on the shelves for patrons to check out.  Once they are in the catalog staff labels them, stamps them with our logo and puts date due slips inside the books.
As we process the new books to get them ready for patrons to checkout, staff members (myself and my co-worker Vonnie come to mind) are practically gleeful getting our hands on the new books.  We keep an eye on Amy as she is processing the new books into the catalog and as soon as she prints out the labels for us, we descend on the new books like little vultures.
It feels like Christmas because we are putting out new little gems (aka new books) out on the shelves, waiting to be picked up and taken home like little presents.  There normally ends up to be a stack of books that end up going home with us.
If you would like to know what new books and other items have been recently added to our collection, you can go to our catalog and under the green box called “What’s Hot,” click on “What’s New.”  Then you can search the items that were recently added within the last week, two weeks or the last month.  If you see something you would like to checkout, you can always put a couple items, or more, on hold.  If you are not sure how to find out what the new books are in the catalog or how to place a reserve on them, you can ask any staff member and we can show you.
