Book Discussion At The IPL!

Join the Independence Public Library for our August Book Discussion. This month's Book Club Book is Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs. The Discussion will start at 6:30 PM on August 24th in the Community Room. This program is free and open to the public, and there is no need to register.

Still Alice by Lisa Genova

            Alice, a professor at Harvard has been forgetting things more often than normal lately.  She is eventually diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.   Over the chapters she steadily declines from just forgetting about an upcoming appointment that day to forgetting who her daughters are. 

            It is heartbreaking reading about this strong woman, only 50 years old, slowly deteriorating.  She is such a strong woman in the beginning: a beloved professor and  very smart woman who people look up to.  She enjoys going for runs; eventually she is unable to go for a run by herself without her husband since she gets lost and will forget where her home is.  What makes this book even sadder to read is that Alzheimer’s is a real disease. 

            Still Alice was the library’s book club choice for the month of July 2015.

IPL Book Discussion!

Join the Independence Public Library on July 27th, 2015 at 6:30 PM for the next Book Club Book Discussion. July's Book Club selection is Still Alice by Lisa Genova. There are still copies available for checkout if you would like to get started before the discussion.

Next month's Book Club book will be Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs, you can pick up a copy at the IPL on July 28th.

The Book Discussion Is Moving To Monday For The Summer!

June's Book Discussion will begin at 6:30 PM on June 22nd, 2015 (Monday). We will be discussing the book Midwives by Chris Bohjalian. There are still copies available for checkout at the circulation desk if you would like to get a start on it before then.
Next month's Book Club book will be Still Alice by Lisa Genova, and the IPL will have copies available for checkout on Tuesday.

May Book Discussion At The IPL!

Join the Independence Public Library this Tuesday (May 26th) for the next Book Club Discussion from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. We'll be discussing the book The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes. If you haven't read the book yet, there are still a few copies available at the Circulation Desk to checkout. If you would like to get a head start on next month's Book Club Book, you can pick up a copy of Midwives by Chris Bohjalian after the Book Discussion.

Join fellow readers for the Book Discussion at the Independence Public Library on March 24th at 6:30 PM to discuss this month's Book Club book "A Painted House" by John Grisham. There are still copies available if you would like to get in on the fun. If you want to get a head start on next month's book, stop in and pick up a copy of "The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat" by Edward Kelsey Moore.
